ERIC GUNHUS - BIO

Eric Gunhus is currently appearing on Broadway in the new musical Billy Elliot, but is most widely known as the Lead Tenor who sang 'Springtime For Hitler' in Mel Brooks' entire Broadway run of The Producers. The New York Daily News' Howard Kissel wrote that Eric's “heroic tenor gives 'Springtime For Hitler' a luster that heightens its outrageousness.” Originally from Des Moines, Iowa, Eric and his family lived overseas in Greece, on the island of Cyprus, and in Saudi Arabia during his childhood. He returned stateside at age fifteen, and after attending high school in the Denver area, enjoyed eleven years of living and working theatrically in and around Los Angeles. Before Eric landed in New York, he toured for over two years with the Broadway 1st National Company of the musical Ragtime where he covered the role of Mother's Younger Brother. He toured Europe with 42nd Street as Billy Lawlor, appeared regionally in Paper Mill Playhouse's Anything Goes (tapping alongside Chita Rivera), and in numerous roles for Sacramento Music Circus. Additional highlights include five other turns as Billy Lawlor in 42nd Street, playing Will Parker in numerous productions of Oklahoma!, Billy Crocker in Anything Goes, Joseph in ...the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and the pre-Broadway world premiere of Rodgers and Hammerstein's State Fair. He had the joy of working with Jerry Herman in concert at the Orange County Performing Arts Center in Jerry Herman's Broadway, with Cathy Rigby in her Annie Get Your Gun in Southern California, and with John Davidson and Jamie Farr in The Will Rogers Follies. Los Angeles venues include the CLO's of South Bay, San Gabriel, Fullerton, Downey, Riverside, and Long Beach, as well as working for Theater League, Music Theater West, The Welk Resort Theater and Disney. In 1998 he was also featured as the lead male production singer in Dick Clark's American Bandstand - Dancin' Through the Decades for Harvey's Casino in Lake Tahoe. As an associate choreographer, his work includes shows for Music Theater West, Riverside CLO, Downey CLO, Candlelight Pavilion and the Los Angeles County Fair. Film and television credits include the film version of The Producers, HBO's Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Guiding Light and Recording 'The Producers' - a musical romp with Mel Brooks. Eric received his education from California State University at Fullerton where he majored in Musical Theater. He owns a home in Manhattan and lives in Jersey City.
